In the Umbria’s heart

Castel Ritaldi

Castel Ritaldi is a little medieval city in the center of Umbria. It is situated on a hill, along the border of the mountain range Monti Martani.
It is located between the cities of Spoleto and Montefalco, near to the cities of Assisi and Spello. Its territory is characterized by woods and olive groves.
Castel Ritaldi takes its name from the Ritaldi Castle, probably during the Roman period.
Towards the end of the XII century, the castle was destroyed because of the wars between the imperial and the papal powers. But at the beginning of the 12th century it was entirerly finished yet. In the second half of the 14th century, were built the walls all around the castel, the same walls that today still remain standing, with the external towers, the loopholes and the holes used for bombing.
